Designing a Beach Hut

Beach Hut Design Competition

In partnership with Southend Borough Council, we've created Wish You Were Here - ten artist-designed beach huts - as a semi-permanent visitor attraction for Southend Pier. Each beach hut acts as a small cultural venue for ideas, exhibitions, sound works, film and even a small library, with a striking artist’s design painted on the exterior.

In June 2016 we ran a competition for local school pupils to design two of these beach huts, with each winning school receiving a £200 prize. The winners were:

Felix Vaufrouard (Age 8) - Literature Beach Hut
Sophia Dickinson (Age 10) - Coastal Beach Hut

Wish You Were Here on Southend Pier remains in situ until August 2017 (£2 Admission Fee onto Southend Pier applies - winter opening times are: 9:15am-5pm Wednesday to Sunday).
