Melanie Smith

Melanie Smith is a visual artist based in Brighton.

Her artistic practice encompasses many different artforms, including map making, illustrating, creative typography, writing, printmaking and experimental photography. Her work incorporates a strong storytelling element.

Melanie has worked with cultural organisations to create guided walks, maps and activities and has worked on large scale illustrations for clinical environments. She has a keen interest in working with community groups, which stems from her desire to directly engage people with their own creative voice.

She is an active member of the Brighton illustration community, and runs the Association of Illustrators meetup for Brighton.

Melanie has created public commissions for The Royal Sussex Hospital, Brighton and St Mary’s Hospital, London. Her work has been commissioned by The Royal Opera House, The National Portrait Gallery and The Whitworth.
