Chris Fenwick: Canvey Island Walk

Chris Fenwick has been the Dr Feelgood band's manager for over 40 years. From the early days busking outside pubs on Canvey Island to sell-out tours and a number one album... throughout their journey from the Thames Estuary marshlands to the hearts of R 'n' B fans worldwide, one man has maintained the helm and navigated the band through the notoriously treacherous waters of the music industry.

Prior to his appearance at Sound of the Thames Delta, Chris offered a free, personal guided walk around Canvey Island on Friday 30 September 10am-1pm.

Starting at Canvey Island Lobster Smack pub, the walk went along the sea wall, with information about places linked to the history of Dr Feelgood's band, the island's industrial connections, the migration from East End, flooding of 1953, but also share about Chris' personal stories of growing up on Canvey and sailing from an early age...

The walk finished at Canvey Heights – the perfect vantage point from which to see the whole island, juxtaposing the industrial Canvey, fishing boats of the old Leigh and seaside fun of Southend.
