Crossness Engines

Opened by the Prince of Wales in 1865, the Crossness Pumping Station was a key element in Sir Joseph Bazalgette's radical scheme to improve the health and sanitation of Victorian London.

The site comprises of three Listed Buildings, including the Engine House - a Grade 1 Listed Building which houses four impressive rotative beam engines one of which has been restored to full working order and maintained by volunteers. A second is currently being restored while the other two remain in their original condition.

Also restored is the magnificent ornamental Victorian cast ironwork.
