School Tours - Tilbury Cruise Terminal

One of the key venues of Estuary 2016 was the historic, Grade II listed Tilbury Cruise Terminal. Site of the arrival of the SS Empire Windrush in 1948, the building is listed for its social history of migration both in and out of the UK as well as for its architectural merits.

Estuary 2016's Points of Departure, a visual art exhibition of 25 contemporary UK and overseas artists responding to the themes of migration, the landscape, history, people and places across the Estuary region, took place at Tilbury Cruise Terminal, as well as LV21 lightship and Gravesend High St across the River.

Our free daily school tours focused on several artworks in Points of Departure exhibition and included a trip on a foot passenger ferry, a tour of an historic Lightship LV21 and active creative workshop activities. The tours were a fantastic experience of history, contemporary art and boats.

If you are a local primary or secondary school in Thurrock or elsewhere in South East Essex and would like to be put on our mailing for future opportunities, please email us on [email protected]
