Schools Poetry Competition

Schools Poetry Competition

As part of the literary programme for Estuary 2016, we invited school pupils from across the length and breadth of Southend Borough to participate by writing poems expressing their experiences of living beside a major River and what the River means to them.

There were no restrictions on length, style, meter or rhythm, and illustrations were also welcomed. The only stipulation was that it needed to be about the sea / estuary / coastline and presented on A4 sheets of paper.

Every poem submitted was available throughout the festival for visitors and artists to read. Three entries were selected for reading by one or our guest poets at Estuary 2016's Shorelines literature event which took place over the weekend of 17 and 18 September 2016 at the historic Tilbury Cruise Terminal.
