ARISE Engagement: artists revealed & World Café dates announced

We are delighted to announce the fantastic artists that have been commissioned following our recent open call to work with us on the ARISE Engagement programme bringing communities together to consider our relationship to the coast.

Artists will be hosting creative activities during ‘World Café’ events to inform a newly created artwork for four coastal locations as well as informing an overarching artwork.

If you live in Heacham in Norfolk, Bawdsey in Suffolk, St Osyth in Essex or Easchurch in Kent please do join our open and welcoming space to share local knowledge, reflect on coastal futures, exchange ideas with other residents, artists and academics. MEET THE ARTISTS

Kerrie O’Leary is a computational artist transforming environmental data into immersive sculptures and sound works that connect coastal ecosystems, technology and community knowledge. Kerrie will be producing an overarching artwork to reflect the engagement across all 4 locations.

Jane Scobie is an artist exploring environmental politics through interactive public artworks that engage communities and reimagine relationships with the natural world. Join Jane at the World Café in Heacham on 21 May here 

Cliff Hammett is an interdisciplinary artist and technologist creating participatory projects that examine ecology, digital systems and community activism. Join Cliff at the World Café event in Bawdsey on 2 June here 

Mattie O’Callaghan is an ecological designer and facilitator working with communities and landscapes to foster collaborative, more sustainable relationships with the natural world. Join Mattie at the World Café event in St Osyth on 12 June here 

David Blandy is a multimedia artist using video, games and sound to explore global systems, cultural narratives and alternative ways of understanding ecology and society. Join David at the World Café event in Eastchurch on 30 June here 

We are delighted to be joined by artist filmmakers who will creating short films of the activities that have taken place.

Charlotte Ginsborg is a filmmaker blending documentary and performance to reveal people’s relationships with their social and environmental contexts.

Mark Požlep is a visual and performance artist using journey-based practice to explore movement, power and collective human experience.

Helen Burt is a filmmaker and photographer capturing coastal communities with an observational, story-led approach rooted in place and lived experience.
