Golden Years

Sadie Hennessy is inviting 70 local Gravesham residents aged 70 and over to join her and renowned photographer Lee Carter for a special photo shoot to capture portraits with a royal twist that will be transferred onto a commemorative tea set.

The tea set and the photographs will be exhibited at St George's Centre from 1-31 June as part of the Gravesham Fringe Festival, celebrating local people and the Platinum Jubilee.

The participants are also invited to join Sadie and Hackney-based The Posh Club - a glamorous performance and social club for older people - for a very special afternoon tea to be held on Sunday 12 June at The Woodville in Gravesend.

The three-hour event is styled as a tongue-in-cheek 'posh' 1940's afternoon tea with live performers, volunteer waiters in black tie, vintage crockery and an in-house pianist. Always held in the heart of the community, The Posh Club is predicated on giving people a reason to get dressed up, access to live performance, social connectivity, and intergenerational volunteering.

As well as the exhibition participants, The Posh Club is open to other members of the community in and around Gravesend.

This is the final part of Golden Years, following on from Sadie’s events in Gravesend last year during Estuary 2021 (22 May – 13 June). The work is a co-commission between Cement Fields and Gravesham Borough Council.
