Michael Bates aka Michael of Sealand

Michael Sealand will be talking about his book 'Holding the Fort' which describes the early days of pirate radio 'Radio Essex' on the Knock John forts which are at the outer reaches of the Thames Estuary and their Declaration of Independence in 1967 on Roughs Tower in the North Sea renaming it the Principality of Sealand. It describes UK government plots to remove them by guile and even by force describing the sometime violent history of Sealand culminating in him being kidnapped for several days and the helicopter assault to retake Sealand from German terrorists.
