Stephen Turner

Stephen Turner is a visual artist with an enduring relationship with the Thames & Medway estuaries. In 1994 he began living in a small tent on the north Kent marshes (in 1997 for over 260 days) resulting in many installations including Tide & Change (Darnet Island 1998), Time & Tide (Millennium Festival,1999); an occupation of the Mauncell Seaforts (www.seafort.org.uk 2005); ‘Four Shores’ lead artist (Isle of Sheppey, 2006), Sedimental (Rochester Art Gallery, 2011).

He is currently working on the project ‘Natura Prima?’ with four artists in Thamesmead, London as part of a collaboration with Bow Arts and the Fondazione Bevilacqua la Masa in Venice. Following a residency and solo retrospective exhibition during the Venice Biennale of Art 2019 the London elements of the project will complete by July 2021.

He is writing a book ‘Everything from the Egg’ documenting his 8 year journey with the Exbury Egg from the New Forest to Burnley to Venice and Thamesmead, London.
