Samantha Penn

Samantha Penn is an independent practice based researcher who since 2016 has researched washing machines as influential but unnoticed agents of cultural and technical change. Some of her ongoing washing machine research is documented in the Critical Makers Reader, published by Institute of Network Cultures in 2019. 

She has worked with a number of artists and projects including MilesKM, Compiler, YoHa, Katie Hawkins, Kombajn and POST Artists’ Network. From 2015-2018 she ran public events at Brixton community re-use workshop The Remakery. In 2018 she received a plumbing diploma. She taught a short course based on her washing machine research at Humboldt University in 2019.
